GL-OM-04 · In-House Tests
Scope
Scope: Covers the end-to-end In-House Testing process, including wash tests, wearer trials, and drop/hang tests used to evaluate production samples against applicable quality, performance, and customer requirements.
Purpose: Ensures production samples are tested under defined conditions and that identified risks or failures are evaluated, resolved, and approved before production or shipment.
Owner: DMR owns and coordinates the In-House Testing process, including test requirements, cross-functional execution, result evaluation, and required approvals.
Applies to: Applies to FT, GT, PMR, QA, and relevant Technical, MR, and vendor/factory personnel involved in production testing and approval activities.
Requirements
AAL
-
R1 — FT — Carry the in-house wash test out internally even if the customer does not request it
- The purpose of this procedure is to evaluate the general appearance and properties of garments after washing under consistent and repeatable conditions,.
- providing a standardised approach for internal quality control and being sure that the goods are in line with customer's quality standards.
-
R2 — FT — Detergent
- Use persil Color.
- Dosage: 20 g per wash.
- Do not use fabric softener or bleaching agents.
-
R3 — PMR — Washing Programme
- Select the washing programme according to the garment's care label / washing instructions.
- Care Label Instruction Recommended Machine Programme Approx.. Duration Spin Speed.
- Double Bar / Very Gentle Delicate Programme ~40 min 800 rpm.
- Single Bar / Gentle Mix Programme ~1 hour 1, 000–1, 200 rpm.
- Normal Cotton Programme ~1.5 hours 1, 000–1, 200 rpm.
-
R4 — PMR — Temperature
- Select the washing temperature according to the garment's care label instructions.
- Use in general, 30°C or 40°C.
- If the care label specifies a different temperature, follow the care label requirement.
-
R5 — FT — Cross-staining check
- When you wash a contrasting-coloured product to check for cross-staining, a small amount of dark-coloured fabric may give inaccurate results.
-
R6 — GT — Garment Preparation and Washing Process
- Wash at least 50 cm of fabric across the full width, or an amount of fabric equivalent to the fabric used in the product.
- Check that a suitable reference sample is available for comparison after washing. The measurements of the reference sample do not have to be identical to those of the test sample.
- Take and record the pre-wash measurements of the sample.
- Attach the multifibre to the sample.
- Load the washing machine with the garment and sufficient loading fabric to achieve a total load of approximately 2 kg.
- Add 20 g of Persil Color detergent.
- Select the appropriate washing programme and temperature according to the garment's care label and start the washing cycle.
- After washing, dry the garment according to the care label instructions.
- Once the garment is completely dry, take the measurements again. Compare the pre-wash and post-wash measurements, calculate and record the shrinkage values as percentages (%). Evaluate the shrinkage result as pass/fail according to the applicable product group and customer manual/standards.
- Evaluate multifibre staining.
- Compare the washed garment with the original unwashed sample and check for any changes, including:
- Colour change / colour fastness.
- Pilling.
- Print appearance and durability.
- Loss or damage of stones, sequins, trims or other accessories.
- Colour change of accessories.
- Changes in shape, appearance or surface.
- Any other deformation or deterioration caused by washing.
- Wash garments considered high-risk styles, particularly those with prints, stones, sequins, tassels, lace or similar accessories/details, at least 3 times. If the style is considered particularly high risk, the test should be repeated for up to 5 washing cycles.
-
R7 — PMR — Take samples for Garment Testing from Pilot Production
- The garments must include all trims, labels and prints.
-
R8 — PMR — If required, conduct print durability or other tests in accordance with the Customer's Manual
-
R9 — PMR — Share the Garment Test result with SpringNE and obtain approval if there is any fail
Wearer Trial
-
R10 — PMR / GT — Conduct a Wear Test under the following circumstances
-
When requested during the Risk Assessment Meeting.
-
When a risk is identified during the Fit Evaluation process.
-
When test results do not meet the required standards.
-
When a risk is identified during production inspections.
-
When specifically requested by the customer.
-
This procedure applies to all customers and all orders.
-
-
R11 — PMR — Method should be as below
- Step 1 – Initial Measurement: measure and record the sample garment before testing.
- Step 2 – First Wear & Wash Cycle.
- Wear the garment for at least 24 hours.
- Take post-wear measurements.
- The garment should then be washed according to the care instructions.
- Take post-wash measurements.
- Evaluate the overall appearance of the garment and user feedback from the 24-hour wear period.
- 2nd trial will be conducted with same method.
- Some customers have their own WT procedure; for example, some brands ask for 5 washes. In that case, follow the customer's WT procedure.
- Step 3 – Reporting & Approval.
- Document wear Test results in a Wear Test Report.
- Report link: In-House Wearer Trial Form.
- The report may be shared with the customer when required.
- For internal assessments, the Technical Manager (TM) provides the final approval.
Drop/Hang Test
-
R12 — GT — All products with a risk of stretching while hanging must undergo a Drop Test
- Examples of such products include.
- Heavy gauge knitwear.
- Viscose knitted garments.
- Loose-gauge knitted garments.
- Make the decision to conduct a Drop Test jointly with the customer, considering factors such as the garment gauge, yarn type, and knit structure.
- For example, links-links knit constructions typically have a higher tendency to stretch.
- Examples of such products include.
-
R13 — GT — Requirements
- Provide 3 garments made from production yarn or production fabric for testing.
- The test duration should be between 3 and 7 days, as agreed with the customer.
- Take key measurements and recorded before and after the test.
- Determine based on the Drop Test results, one of the following actions.
- Modification of the fabric, yarn, or knitting settings.
- Pattern adjustment or shortening of garment dimensions.
- No changes required to the garment.
- Due to recent issues experienced in production (e.g., a men's knitwear style that stretched excessively in stores by 5–10 cm after shipment), it has been decided that Drop Tests will also be conducted during production.
- QC should collect a Drop Test sample together with the wash test sample from the beginning of production.
- Conduct the Drop Test for 3–7 days.
- Complete the Drop Test before shipment approval is granted.
- Shipment approval should be based on the Drop Test results.
- The Merchandising Team is responsible for conducting and monitoring the Drop Test process.
