GL-OM-12 · Metal Button, Snap & Eyelet Attaching
Scope
Scope: Covers the end-to-end control of metal button, snap, eyelet, rivet, and related fastening attachment, including approved sourcing, machine settings, dimensional and strength checks, functional checks, and defect control.
Purpose: Ensures metal fasteners are securely and correctly attached, meet specified strength and dimensional requirements, and do not create safety or quality risks in finished products.
Owner: DMR owns and coordinates the Metal Button, Snap & Eyelet Attaching process, with MR responsible for technical requirements and controls, FT for applicable product-specific requirements, and Vendors for production execution and testing.
Applies to: Applies to FT, MR, and Vendors working on Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) within Order Management.
Requirements
-
R1 — MR — Source all metal buttons, eyelets, rivets and snap fasteners from approved manufacturers
-
R2 — Vendor — Check the attaching process every hour from start to finish
-
R3 — MR — Obtain pressure settings from the metal trim manufacturer with a datasheet report at the purchasing stage, and production must not start without the datasheet
-
R4 — Vendor — Make machine settings by the maintenance department according to the datasheet values and the values verified every hour with a caliper
-
R5 — MR — If the values deviate, call the mechanic in charge, isolate 1 hour of production, check it 100% and separate the defective pieces
-
R6 — Vendor — Record caliper results on the "pinch setting control chart" form and action taken according to the colour indicators (red: production stops)
-
R7 — Vendor — Measure the fabric thickness with a micrometer
-
R8 — MR — Apply a 90 N pull test to snap fasteners, rivets and shank buttons in line with the requirements
-
R9 — Vendor — The process controller must check the attaching height on 5 random pieces every two hours and record it in the Pull Test Report
-
R10 — Vendor — For pull strength, prepare mockup panels exactly representing the attaching area on the product, then test and report them twice a day
-
R11 — Vendor — Carry attaching height and strength checks out and reported separately for each machine for different metal trims or areas with a different number of fabric plies
-
R12 — Vendor — After attaching there must be no breakage, cracking, crushing or surface peeling on the metal trim, and no burrs or sharp edges
-
R13 — MR — Trims with an open-close function must be functionally checked by opening and closing them 3 times
-
R14 — FT — Attach on children's and baby products the snap fastener to exactly the same fabric ply; applications overlapping the seam, binding or interlining are assessed as a critical defect
