GL-OM-11 · Metal Detector
Scope
Scope: Covers the end-to-end metal detection process, including equipment setup, calibration, routine checks, product screening, failure management, recording, and final inspection requirements before shipment.
Purpose: Ensures all finished products are individually screened and that metal detection equipment is properly controlled, verified, and maintained to prevent contaminated products from being shipped.
Owner: DMR owns and coordinates the Metal Detector process, with MR responsible for operational controls, verification, and audits, and Vendors responsible for equipment operation, product screening, records, and maintenance.
Applies to: Applies to MR and Vendors working on Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) within Order Management.
Requirements
-
R1 — Vendor — Position the metal detector between the production area and the shipment preparation area, in a controlled metal-free zone
-
R2 — MR — Set the detector to detect a 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm metal particle according to the customer standard
-
R3 — MR — Carry a "Nine Point Check" out before use and at least every 2 hours during operation
-
R4 — MR — Close the control panel with a locked transparent cover and the key held by the line supervisor
-
R5 — Vendor — No product may move to packaging/shipment without passing through the metal detector; scan every product individually
-
R6 — Vendor — Record all products checked on the Metal Detector Control Form by style, date and time
-
R7 — MR — Hold products in the designated waiting area until the next successful check; in the event of a failure all products must be re-checked
-
R8 — Vendor — The metal detector must only be operated by certified operators
-
R9 — MR — Do not allow metal accessories such as watches, bracelets, phones, keys and belts in the metal-free area; visitors must declare their metal items and sign the Entry-Exit Form
-
R10 — Vendor — Calibrate the metal detector by an authorised service provider at least once a year and the certificates retained
-
R11 — Vendor — Do not carry final inspection out at production sites without a metal detector system, and the metal detector report must be attached to all final reports
-
R12 — MR — Audit production areas by the QA team every 3 months using the relevant form
-
R13 — Vendor — Place products that fail the detector and in which no metal can be found in the locked Quarantine Box and entered on the Quarantine Record Form
-
R14 — MR — On detection of a fault the conveyor must stop automatically and must not restart by itself
