SOP-OM-06 · Lab Dip & Strike-Off Approval
Scope
Scope: Covers the preparation, evaluation, submission, and approval of lab dips and strike-offs before bulk colour production or printing proceeds.
Purpose: Ensures colours and prints meet customer-approved references and applicable quality standards before bulk production.
Owner: DMR owns and coordinates the lab dip and strike-off approval process, including vendor follow-up, internal evaluation, customer submission, and approval tracking.
Applies to: Applies to DMR, Quality, Technical, vendors/dyehouses, and customers involved in colour and print approval activities within Pre-Production.
Process
-
DMR — Send customer's colour references to vendor to initiate the lab-dip once the order is confirmed
- All quality/handfeel approvals must be made on the basis of the confirmed master sample; the dyehouse and internal teams must prepare hangers from the same base.
-
DMR — Evaluate all submitted lab-dips in light box under the lighting conditions specified in the customer's colour manual by assessing first, under the brand's primary light source, then under the secondary light source to find out if there is metamerism (See GL-OM-01 CP Management — R8)
- Our customers use following light sources - click to open the Light Sources table. Click for chart.
- All staff performing colour check must hold a valid Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue test score of 16 or lower. (See GL-OM-14 Colour Assessment — R1, R2, R3)
-
DMR — Submit the lab-dip to the customer for approval if the lab-dip is considered acceptable, include your comments if necessary and add print of related & digital submission details in the package that sent for submission
- Bulk dyeing must not begin until the lab-dip has been approved by the customer (if customer approval is required).
-
DMR — If the lab-dip is not acceptable, provide clear comments to the mill/supplier, and request a new lab-dip submission (See GL-OM-01 CP Management — R9)
