GL-OM-13 · Common Quality & Testing Issues

Scope

Scope: Covers recurring quality and testing issues identified during bulk production and inline inspection, including marking pen reappearance, interlining specification and fusing controls, and knit spirality.

Purpose: Ensures common quality risks are proactively controlled through appropriate materials, testing, equipment calibration, production controls, and documented verification.

Owner: QA owns and coordinates the Common Quality & Testing Issues process, with Factory QA, GT, vendors, and inline inspectors responsible for implementing and verifying the defined controls.

Applies to: Applies to Factory QA, GT, vendors, and inline inspectors involved in bulk production and inline inspection activities.

Requirements

  1. R1 — Avoid vanishing marker pens. Prefer pattern notches, drill holes, tailor's chalk, or soap pencils for marking.

    • If a vanishing pen is unavoidable, factory QA and SpringNE QA must agree no alternative exists.
    • Test that marks do not reappear across -10°C to +30°C, or accept the pen manufacturer's test report.
    • Keep test pieces and records at least 3 months; repeat tests for each fabric type.
    • Verify chemical content and keep MSDS available; colourless pens may be used on light colours when approved.
  2. R2 — Control interlining supply and specification. Buy interlining only from customer-approved suppliers.

    • Send production fabric to the interlining supplier and obtain written spec and application conditions.
    • GT collects documents and samples at fit stage.
  3. R3 — Calibrate and record fusing equipment. Authorised service calibrates the fusing machine annually.

    • Verify temperature with heat bars three times per day and record results.
  4. R4 — Verify fusing during inline inspection. QA reviews annual calibration and daily temperature records, keeps copies, and runs pull tests with heat bars during fusing.

    • Wrong temperature, time, or pressure causes bubbling, poor adhesion, shrinkage, or colour change.
  5. R5 — Address knit spirality when it appears. Evaluate twist direction, half-system knitting, elastane blends, or cutting front and back panels in opposite directions.
