SOP-OM-16 · Inline Inspection
Scope
Scope: Covers the end-to-end Inline Inspection process, including production readiness, line and product quality checks, measurement and shade controls, corrective actions, and pre-final verification during bulk production.
Purpose: Ensures production quality, measurements, workmanship, approved standards, production progress, and corrective actions are continuously monitored and controlled before final inspection and shipment.
Owner: QA owns and coordinates the Inline Inspection process, including inspection planning, execution, reporting, corrective actions, and follow-up with factories and relevant teams.
Applies to: Applies to QA, SCQC, GT, FT, PMR, factories, and vendors involved in bulk production, quality control, and Inline Inspection activities.
Process
-
Carry out at least 1 (preferably at least 2) inline inspections for each order, with the first check performed at approximately 10% of production.
- Up to 500 pieces, inline is not mandatory.
- 500-1, 000 pieces: 1 inline mandatory.
- More than 1, 000: at least 2 inlines.
- High risk styles regardless of quantity.
- Continuous/repeat orders need repetitive inlines during production.
-
Check if the product file and Approved Sample available, if one of them not available do not start the inline inspection. (See GL-OM-05 Product File Management — R5)
-
Check if production file has a fully completed a checklist on the first page with signature, if not available then the production file means incomplete, do not start inline inspection.
-
It is the factory's responsibility to provide timely information regarding production schedules and Inline Inspection requirements. (See GL-OM-06 Weekly Production Report (WPR) & Meetings — R9)
-
Factory internal inspections must be completed by SCQCs in advance SpringNE QA inspections. Product file and approved samples must be prepared by SCQC. SCQC should be aware of the history of the style, must read all the comments and review previous inspection reports. Reports must be uploaded to the vendor portal system.
-
Review the history of the style to be inline inspected. This will contain, the product file review, sampling comments, previous inspection reports. Follow up if any pending issue noted in the reports.
-
Review sewing/linking input, output, daily targets, and achievements of SpringNE running sewing lines. Verify whether these align with the CPS and report findings to the merchandising team. Every visit, every day even if its same factory.
-
Solutions can be changing the machine, changing the operator or changing the line balance as well as stopping the production for serious issues.
-
Where any issue can not be resolved, inform senior management immediately before exiting the factory.
-
Ensure size breakdown of each stage will be matching order size ratio.
-
Check the cut, printed, embroidered, embellished panels by comparing the approved artworks during the visit. If in-hose production then review the processes.
-
Inspect each running machine and the product quality and address any issues directly with factory personnel.
-
Check the minimum stretch measurements (neck opening, waist, cuff, leg opening) at every inline inspection. (See GL-OM-02 Sampling Rules — R4)
-
When a problem is identified, corrective action must be implemented immediately at the source and during production. The focus should be on resolving the issue rather than simply collecting samples for review.
-
Inspect 20 finished garments from each sewing/linking line and record the results in your inline CRM report.
-
Compare production with approved Red/Green or Gold Seal samples.
-
For knitwear production compare the weight against the approved sample.
-
At least two garments must be pressed before taking measurements, and measurements must be evaluated after pressing.
-
If a measurement issue is identified, measure 5 additional products at the relevant measurement point.
-
For washed products, check 10 pieces from each washing lot are and compare with the approved shade family; the washing input-output quantities and the second-quality assessment are shared with merchandising. (See GL-OM-03 Washed Garments Shade Approval — R5)
-
Monitor the daily input, output, targets, and achievements in the quality control and packing stages. Ensure lead times are in line with the CPS. Check second-quality garments at quality control tables and request necessary corrective actions from the factory.
-
A pre-final inspection is carried out via CRM for styles approaching 70% completion (recording 5 measurements per size).
-
Styles that cannot undergo a standard inline inspection must be reported to the QA Manager or QA Admin, and a self-report (covering 1 sewing and 1 ironing-packaging stage) must be requested. Products that lack a SpringNE or Self-Inline report cannot be cleared for shipment.
