Wearer Trial (WT) Process

Scope

Purpose: The Wearer Trial (WT) Process decides whether a style may go to bulk after real wear. A Garment Technologist (GT) measures the garment before and after the trial so the Technical Manager can judge dimensional change and comfort. Without the trial, shrink or stretch faults surface as customer complaints after bulk ships.

Owner: PMR.

Applies to: GT, Product Merchandiser (PMR), TM, Quality Assurance (QA), and the factory team member who wears the garment.

Process

  1. Identify the trial need. GT and PMR agree that an RA finding or a customer request calls for a wearer trial.

    • Log the requirement on the Wearer Trial Request & Tracking Form before the garment leaves the office.
    • Name the wearer and the trial start date in the same entry.
  2. Record pre-test measurements. GT measures the garment and saves the baseline in the SharePoint Wearer Trial Report.

    • Measure every point the customer's measurement chart controls.
    • If a baseline measurement is missing, hold the garment. A trial without a baseline cannot be compared afterwards, so it does not count.
  3. Run the wear and wash cycle. The wearer uses the garment for at least 24 hours under actual wear conditions, then washes it.

    • Wash strictly to the care label. Do not change temperature, cycle, or drying method.
    • Report comfort problems and wash defects to GT as soon as they appear.
    • If the wear time falls short of 24 hours, or the wash departs from the care label, repeat the cycle before measuring.
  4. Evaluate post-test status. GT measures the garment again and compares each point against tolerance.

    • If shrinkage and stretch stay inside tolerance, and the wearer reports no unresolved defect, move to step 5 for approval.
    • If any point falls outside tolerance, or the wearer reports an unresolved defect, GT holds bulk approval and escalates to TM. TM decides whether to develop the style further or run a second trial. PMR tells the customer the outcome on request.
  5. Report and record the decision. GT and PMR complete the SharePoint Excel report and TM records the internal decision.

    • Finish the report within 3 days of the wear-test decision.
    • Keep pre-test measurements, post-test measurements, wearer feedback, and the TM decision in one report, so QA and the customer read the same record.

Workflow

Identify the trial need
Record pre-test measurements
Run the wear and wash cycle
Evaluate post-test status
Report and record the decision
